I think our home page could be more concise and do a much better job explaining what a maker space is. I also think we could more effective describe how we’ll benefit the Rochester community.Things have started to move so quickly in the last week that I don’t have time anymore to rewrite it.
I think it’s so important that I’ve started looking for an experienced local copywriter that we could hire for a few hours. I also posted an ad on eLance, just to see what kind of response it’ll get.
Please speak up if you’d like to try rewriting it or if you know someone who can help us.
I’m going to be pretty picky because I think it’s extremely important that we present ourselves as well as possible. I’m also going to be picking up the bill on this.

I’m going to do a once over on the home page and I’ll shoot you my thoughts. I’m also starting to look into what would make a good landing page. The landing page would still be part of this site overall however, it will be stripped of many things and have just the nuts and bolts of what this is and why Rochester NEEDS it :) It will then of course have a link back to the main page. This will help with our SEO, any campaigns we do and would also be the primary link that we post for any fliers. Recommend that any fliers we create include a QR Code linking to the landing page.

I wrote the landing page and I strongly agree with you. It could be:
- More concise
- Explain better what a maker space
- Present a stronger argument about why it will benefit the Rochester community
- Have a stronger call to action (Help Us!)
I was going rewrite it myself but it would take me hours and I already have too much to do right now. So two days ago I posted a job to rewrite it on Elance and I got two excellent proposals from experienced copywriters who have many excellent reviews. I would have chosen one of them earlier today if I hadn’t so busy exchanging emails with you and a gadzillion other people :-)
The job was going to cost me $150 but I thought it would be worth it if we got the kind of page we need (and nearly a complete waste of money if we don’t).
Now I have a quandary. It would be nice to save that money and put it towards the other expenses we’ll have. On the other hand, about eight professional writers expended time and effort to respond to my job posting with proposals. And the two leading contenders have spent additional time answering questions I had.
Let me be frank. You made a very good impression on me last fall. Because of that and what I’ve seen today I already have lot of confidence in you.
But I also don’t know you that well and you’ve taken on a lot of other tasks on your first day. Are you sure you also want to take this one on? And if so, can you get it done fairly soon, before we start putting up a lot of flyers?
