I know we don't have a logo yet, but I think it is really important that we put flyers up to direct more traffic to the site. Right now it mostly seems to be word of mouth, I only heard of it through Matt. We also really need to get the art community involved. A logo will come in time, but the most important thing is getting the word out and making sure we can get people's interest. Matt and I can get some going in here in the Art District and maybe even at school.
I think that would be great and I like Matt's idea/flyer that he made with the QR codes. I will be attending summer school at MCC, and I could post there. My neighbor and friend is also highly involved in the art community and I know that he would be willing to post them as well. I think that the logo can come later. To get this off the ground I agree with Rory and Rob (I am sure everyone else feels the same way), in that we need to get more people involved. Would everyone be okay with me using Matt's flyer, and does the QR code work?

Agreed that more traffic is definitely a plus and needed. If you need help with the QR code, that's a piece of cake on my end let me know. I'm also looking into a Facebook Fan Page and a landing page here for the site… Fan page will help with traffic, landing page would be the target for the QR code as well as any SEO.
Sean, I'm very glad you joined our team. But you don't have to do everything yourself.
I agree that we need to drive more traffic to the web site ASAP. I could be wrong, but I think the quickest and most effective way to generate LOCAL traffic from the Rochester area is by using flyers, word-of-mouth, social media, traditional media and free ads on Craigslist.
I'd like to help more with this but I've got my hands full right now with infrastructure stuff. But I should have more time soon.
Here's my idea for a flyer that doesn't need a logo. We could print them out on bright orange or neon green paper.
And here are ideas for three variations. We could also put all four questions on a flyer.
Are you a Machinist without a Machine Shop?
Are you a Woodworker without a Workshop?
Are you an Artist without a Studio?
Matt can you post your flyer here when it's ready? And anyone else who's got one? We can distribute more than one design.
I think we should finalize them, get them printed, and buy tape, thumbtacks and anything else we'll need so we can start distributing them on June 1st.
Have any of you gone to the Hungerford or Anderson Arts buildings on "First Friday?" It's next week on June 1st. If not, I suggest going if you can. There are far fewer studios open in the summer because of the heat but I think you'll still enjoy yourselves. And you'll become familiar with the Hungerford Building, if you're not already. That's kind of important because we may want to consider renting space in it, at least temporarily. The rent is cheap and it's full of artist studios and small businesses.

I am so new here I squeak, but in attending another workshop, I saw your flyer and checked into the website and went crazy. I have always wanted a workshop to try out tools and to experiment with different mediums but never had a studio to do so. Your flyer was intriguing and I clicked on here and became a member. A great way to get the word out is through Twitter and Facebook. Also on Pintrest. I have a Twitter account for the school I am currently working for and we have gotten a tremendous amount of press by following the various media reporters and outlets and sending info directly to them. They actually came to the school to film and retweet the info to their users. If you are not already on Twitter, please consider it and if you need help. let me know. There are certain things you can do to keep your facebook, website and Twitter in the spotlight.
Looking forward to seeing how this all works out.
May I ask what you're interested in making or doing? And also where you saw our flier?
We've got a lot to do. Our web site was launched only about a month ago and we just started putting up fliers. But we already have a lot of tools to start with and I think we could get into at least a temporary space if we can get the word out and find 25 to 50 people who are strongly interested in joining.
We already have a good core group that's working hard. But we're all volunteers, there's a lot of work to do and and everyone has other responsibilities they also have to worry about, like like jobs, school and families.
We have someone working on a Facebook page but no one who is trying to promote us using Twitter. So we would really appreciate it if you can help us with that.
I was putting up posters on South Ave, at retail locations, and I actually got really good feedback from the owner's over there. Hopefully some of them will get involved, and inform the makers they know. School is out, for now, and I hope to be able to get out a bit more to put them up. I think they will be effective though. I'm going to use the information from this site to make a facebook page.
