This was an impromptu meeting that was held at Peppermints Restaurant, Henrietta at 9:00am. Only some of those actively involved in getting the Rochester Maker Space started were able to make it. In attendance: Rob, Pat, Wyatt, John B. Jon S., Brandon and Fabiano.
Some of these topics have already been discussed. Everyone is welcome to attend all formal and informal meetings we have.
We need to thank Pat for these minutes and keeping us organized
Space. Getting space, renting space, finding space. Brandon is in real estate and will work on finding a space. It was decided the first space will be a temporary space with plans to build up to a bigger space in the future.
Planning: The Maker space will be done in phases to start. The first phase will be to find temporary space and determine what skills we can offer. Eventually we would like to offer classes/training. Fabiano & Jon both know of some artists for possible teachers.
Insurance: This was a big discussion, whether we needed it, if someone was hurt who would be responsible, and Rob will be speaking to the Artist's Asylum for more assistance in that area.
What do we want to offer: Glass blowing, metals, woods, bike repair, ceramics, ideas for the hobbyist. Discussion on a 3D printer was held, it could be used at sign ups to get people interested but it's imperative that we have one in our workspace or it will seem like false advertising. (Note from Rob - We've ordered a Solidoodle 3D printer - delivery won't be for another 7-9 weeks)
- Name tags were suggested by Jon to help make things run smoother in future meetings. It was agreed that an agenda printout will help streamline things as well.
- Rob discussed the group taking a trip to the Boston Maker Space, Artist's Asylum who have offered to provide us further insight and help.
Social Media: Discussion regarding the Facebook/Twitter for Maker Space Roc came up. A problem linking to the website is being looked into by Wyatt/Jon & Rob. Jon's website is able to do this and he will assist Wyatt in determining what can be done so Maker Space can be linked in as well.
Distribution of Duties
It was decided that the next meeting will be a strictly working meeting, not a brainstorm meeting, where the groups will bring back the information they have been able to put together and the maker space members will vote where indicated. Please let Pat know what will be presenting by September 5th in order for the agenda to be created.
The date of the next meeting will be Sept, 8 tentatively scheduled at The Flying Squirrel at 6:30pm. Wyatt will be checking into the availability.
Please note: These teams are in their preliminary stages and anyone can join a group if you haven't already chosen a group. If you are already working on an area that doesn't appear listed here, please let me know so I can make the changes accordingly.
