I don’t have much time to respond right now. I know this is really short notice but would you like to meet some of us for breakfast tomorrow morning (Saturday 8/4) at 9 AM at Peppermints Family Restaurant on West Henrietta Road? Everyone else is also welcome to come.
We often meet informally on Saturday mornings to discuss the maker space. There is going to be at least four or five of us there including some other new folks who want to get involved. You can meet some of our team and we can answer your questions and tell you more about our plans.
One of the things we’re working hard on right now is the financial section of our business plan. One of our problems is that we don’t know how much space we’re going to need. Also, successful maker spaces tend to go through huge growth spurts and frequently have to move into larger spaces. So we’re trying to figure out how much it will cost us to rent and operate 5000, 10,000 and 20,000 square foot spaces and we don’t have anyone with experience renting commercial real estate.
I was going to start contacting brokers next week to see if we can find someone who will help us with cost estimates (utilities, insurance, snow removal, trash pick, etc.), and help us find a suitable place to get started in. Is that something you would like to help us with? There’s plenty more you can do if it isn’t.

Therefore, I believe I could definitely benefit by bring knowledge of the real estate world. In addition, I also have contacts within the real estate community that deal with real estates law, insurances, mortgages, and other specialized fields.
