Hey there!

I am very excited to have found this group! I am a local wood turner. I make bowls, mugs, plates, tops, and just about anything else I can out of locally harvested wood. During the week I manage an organic farm in Webster and in most of my free time I am working on my lathe. I am originally from NJ and I went to college at a small environmental college in VT. I moved to Rochester after college and I have been back and forth from here over the past few years. I now here to stay and I'd love to join a group like this!

I am interested in shared work space and definitely interested in renting a private work space. I have several tools as well that I noticed were on your list, including a 14'' horizontal bandsaw with a 6'' riser block in it, a full size JET Wood lathe, a 8" Delta bench grinder, a bench top Jigsaw, and an assortment of other power tools. I'd love to come to your next meeting and find out more about what you guys got cooking. Let me know how I can lend a hand!

Hi Sam,

Thank you for introducing yourself.

We are in desperate need of more help right now.  We're negotiating a lease and we're soon going to have many things to do and decide to get our doors open and our makerspace running smoothly.  I'll be sending out an email announcement with details in the next day or two.

We have MANY people who want to do woodworking so getting our woodshop up and running is a very high priority.  We need someone to evaluate the equipment we already have, tell us what we still need and then help us find it on Craigslist.  We also need to get a fund raising or Kickstarter campaign going so we can buy a SawStop tablesaw ASAP.

For those that don't know, it's a saw with a blade that will stop instantly if someone's fingers touch it. Their 3 HP professional quality saw with the largest table they have and a dust collection system is going to cost about $3200.

I'd like to see us build our own workbenches to save money, to teach new skills, and to start creating a sense of community.  We're probably not going to be able to afford the hardwood needed to build traditional woodworking benches, so we need to find other good designs that we can build.

If you want, you can contact me via this page.

Rob
