Hey everyone! Just wanted thank you all for coming out last night, as well as offering a couple of reminders.
A big group at this week’s open house.
Last night’s Open House was busy, populated with new people, and very productive for our community at the Makerspace. We met with some new potential instructors, talked about their classes, and have some dates scheduled which we will be presenting you all with soon.
Furthermore it was exciting to see everyone getting to know each other, talk about their own projects, and sharing ideas because that’s what the Makerspace is about! We hope that everyone who came last night will continue to attend each week, as we all had a ton of fun, and it’s a good opportunity for all of us to begin working together.
As a reminder we will be holding our first Safety Orientation for new members next Thursday night. If you would like to be a member of the Rochester Makerspace Join, sign up for the orientation, and bring your Membership Agreement and Liability Waiver with you to the orientation session. Upon meeting those requirements you be given general access to the space and a key fob, allowing you to use the space any day between the hours of 8am-10pm.
I’d also like to remind everyone that there are still spots available for individuals or businesses to join our Founder’s Club. Anyone who donates a $100 or more to the space will earn their spot in the club, as well as their name on a metal plaque that we will display prominently in our space. This is a great way to support an organization that is actively promoting creativity, learning, and sharing in the Rochester community. If you’d like to contribute in some other way please check our Donate page as well as our Wish List.
Again thank you to everyone who came out last night, making our Open House fun and enjoyable for all! We hope to see you all next week. For daily updates or to interact with us please check us out on our Facebook Page. Also, if you have any further questions please feel free to Contact Us.
Going strong with a couple of updates this week, but we absolutely needed to get this one out. We know many of you want to access the space and we’ve finally met our needs to make it happen.
Our first Safety Orientation session for new members will be taking place on June 13th from 6-8pm. Space is limited to 15 participants, so make sure to head to our Eventbrite page to sign up. Don’t worry if you’re unable to make this session, as I am working hard to make these happen on a recurring and regular basis. If there is a demand I will do my best to schedule another orientation in the same week.
Members will be given an access card to the space after completing the safety orientation and finalizing their membership. This will allow them to use the space when they want to. The New Member Orientation Packet on our Membership page includes our membership agreement, liability waiver, and policies that each member is required to read and agree to. Please bring the signed liability waiver and membership agreement to the Safety Orientation or during our Thursday Open House.
So please head over to our Membership page on our website to Join, sign up for the orientation, and download your New Member Orientation Packet. We have a lot of exciting things in store for this summer as well as many new classes are on the horizon.
I look forward to meeting and making with you all!
First, we want to thank all of you who have helped us get to this point through interest and support, volunteering, or donating money and tools. Together, we have already done something difficult and incredible, but there is still a lot of work to do and many problems to be solved.
We want to create a organization and facility that every member of our community can use and be proud of. Now that we have a space we want to fill it as quickly as possible with users and events. In other words, we want to get off to a fast start instead of a slow one. To do that we still need some essential tools and other items, and we can’t keep asking the same generous supporters to buy them for us.
So, we are starting a Founder’s Club, which will be made up of the first 100 donors who contribute $100 or more to the Rochester Makerspace.
By donating to the Founder’s Club you’ll get bragging rights and your name will be displayed on a commemorative plaque that will forever be prominently displayed in our makerspace. Most importantly, you’ll help ensure that we become a successful and sustainable organization that will benefit the entire community.
We realize that many of our supporters can not afford $100 and that’s OK. Even a few dollars will be a huge help and no contribution is too small! We appreciate anything you can give. To donate any amount please follow this link.
We have been blown away by all the support and response we have received thus far about this project, and we can’t wait to share this incredible organization with you and the Rochester community. Please make sure to “Like” us on our facebook page!
A Big Thanks,
The Rochester Makerspace
Slowly moving stuff in! Time to organize!
Just wanted to notify everyone that we will be in the space on Thursday (02/21) starting at 6:00pm for an official work meet up. We will be doing a number of things, including but not limited to:
- Workbenches - Finishing what we’ve started in the workbenches. We have made some good progress, and we probably have enough now to start. We may build a few more, but our focus will be on finishing and placing what we have.
- Organizing – Begin moving stuff into place, and organizing the space.
- Floor Cleanup – Our floor needs some work. Before we put floor tape down we need to clean it. Hopefully we will have what we need to get a crew cleaning it.
- Computing & Security – Setting up workstations, setting up camera system.
- Discuss Fundraising - We will be working on a number of fundraising options in the next month or two. We may spend some time organizing those efforts.
- General Cleanup & Hanging Out – Anything else that comes up or needs to be done, we will try to get to. Also will use the time to simply hang out.
Although this is a work night, please feel free to stop by, see the space, and meet us.
If you are interested in becoming a member, an active participant in our group, or want to donate to our efforts please stop by and see us or contact us.
Look forward to seeing you all there!
